Kimono Tees

As usual, the room was exploding with fabric; there was fabric stuffed into bags, fabric stacked in the closet and everywhere! Thus, I make use of my beautiful kimono fabrics, carefully selecting the outstanding patterns, hand-cut shapes and sew them onto tees.

PS: I use top quality tees made by companies working toward growing the eco-fiber movement.

Traditional Kimono (Top)

KI = wearing, MONO = something

Yeah, it is wearing something.

In the past, the Japanese wore Kimono as usual clothes for life. However, through the years, more and more Janpanese are adopted to the western style of clothing. Therefore, today kimono are only worn on special occasions such as weddings, group rituals, important meeting or for commemoration photos.

To prevent this beautiful and elegant costume to become extinct, I have come out with this traditional kimono top!

There are many types of kimono, each relates to the woman’s age, marital status, and to the level of formality of the occasion. The level of formality of women’s kimonos is determined by the shape (mostly the length of the sleeves), pattern, fabric, and color.

For example, young, unmarried women typically wear kimono that are colorful and rich with patterns, with extremely long sleeves that extend almost to the floor. The colorful patterns are neccessary in order to attract the eyes of men. The long flowing sleeves of the furisode are also supposed to beckon men toward them! hehe. Very interesting eh?
